True Blood

Status: New Series
Timeslot: Sunday 9 PM EST
Premiere: September 7th

The creator of HBO’s Six Feet Under brings Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampires Mysteries series of novels to the cable network. In the series, people are aware that vampires exist and they live together with them because of the Japanese created synthetic blood called “TruBlood”. This blood substitute allows vampires to feast off of it instead of humans. Also, vampires in this world will be seeking equal rights as humans, creating a parallel to the current day gay rights movement. The series will take place in a small Louisiana town and focus on a human, telepathic waitress named Sookie Stackhouse played by Anna Paquin (X-Men) who falls in love with one of the vampires, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).

The pilot for True Blood was actually shot last year and the series was scheduled to bow in Spring 2008. The writer’s strike threw a wrench into that causing HBO to push back the premiere to Fall 2008. The first season will run twelve episodes, and cast and crew have to hope that this vampire series will fare better than the two that preceded it last season: both CBS’s Moonlight and Lifetime’s Blood Ties were sent back to the grave.

True Blood feels a lot like Heroes right off the bat (just rented the first episode from Blockbuster), though it still feels mostly original... overall the show makes me want to eat Cajun food and drink beer
