The long awaited final ten episodes of Battlestar Galactica will finally see the light of day beginning January 16th. The back ten of Season 4 were delayed partly because of the writer’s strike and partly because the Sci Fi Channel wants to stretch as much mileage as they can from their flagship series (though they won’t admit to that). When we last saw the ragtag fleet, they had finally reached Earth only to find it reduced to a wasteland. In the final episodes of the series, we will find out how the crew of the fugitive fleet deals with this development and we will also see the identity of the last of the “Final Five” Cylons revealed.
In addition to the new episodes, SciFi.com will run ten webisodes, named "The Face of the Enemy”, that will act as a bridge between the first and second halves of Season 4. These will focus on Lt. Felix Gaeta who will be sent on a mission on a Raptor where one person dies and the remaining crew and passengers must investigate the death. The webisodes will begin airing on December 12th (available at the series website link above, see schedule below). Also for those of us jonesing for more BSG, a prequel movie set immediately prior to the events of the Cylon attack which kicked off the series will air in the months following the completion of the show’s regular run. Two to three more movies are expected to follow and the prequel series Caprica will kick-off in 2010.
The return of Battlestar Galactica is second highest on my viewing list for the back half of the current season, just behind the return of lost. I expect that the series will continue to provide hard-hitting drama and that it will go out with a bang.
